YouTube is shifting into high gear with online shopping! On October 13, 2026, the platform announced the launch of its YouTube Shopping affiliate program in France. The concept? Allowing creators to tag products directly in their videos, Shorts, and live streams, making it easier for their community to find and purchase them.
This development brings content and commerce even closer together, while opening up new opportunities for both creators and brands.
HOW DOES YOUTUBE SHOPPING WORK?
Until now, creators could primarily share links to recommended products in their video descriptions. With YouTube Shopping, they can now tag products directly within their content.
Viewers can now access featured products without having to hunt for links in the description. For eligible creators, the program also allows them to earn commissions on sales generated through their recommendations.
And the initial results are encouraging! According to YouTube, direct product tagging has generated up to 110% more clicks compared to links placed only in descriptionsin markets where this feature was already available.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR BRANDS?
For brands, this new feature offers a fresh way to bring their products closer to consumers. A review video, an unboxing, or a recommendation can now include direct access to the featured products, simplifying the journey from discovery to purchase.
It is also an interesting development for measuring the impact of collaborations. Beyond visibility and engagement, sales generated by content can now play a more significant role in evaluating influencer campaigns.
However, for the system to work, the choice of creators remains essential. A recommendation that aligns with their niche and their community's expectations allows for products to be presented naturally, without turning the content into a mere catalog.
With YouTube Shopping, the platform is strengthening the link between influence and commerce. For brands, the challenge will be to turn this new opportunity into relevant collaborations that can generate both engagement and sales.
